American Museums

  • Whitney Museum of American Art, New York
    The Whitney's ambitious virtual museum covers all the bases, with current shows, works from the permanent collection, essays, library information and up-to-the-minute web art projects sponsored by the museum.

International Museums

  • Art Tower Mito
    Current exhibitions as well as details of the programs offered by various departments such as Performing Arts and Film.
  • Louvre Museum
    A handful of images from each of its collections that adds up to a decent tour.
  • Vatican Museum
    The museum's website offers images of thousands of religious and secular works of art from various Vatican collections.

Virtual Museums

  • WebMuseum, Paris
    This superb site includes a section on famous paintings, a virtual tour of Paris and offers such treats as images from the original Tres Riches Heures of the Chantilly Museum. The manuscript is no longer available for viewing by the public.

Art Galleries

  • Plexus
    A cross between a gallery and an information service, Plexus offers text and images covering its own artists, along with a wonderful range of other art sites you can view within its page, from publications to museums and other galleries.
  • Sandra Gering Gallery
    Ms. Gering's gallery is well-known on the web for offering such interactive art projects as John Simon Jr.'s "Alter Stats," and Ben Kinmont's "We Both Belong."
  • Sito/Otis Project
    On the cutting edge of exploring the new online medium. Access to a wide variety of exhibits, catalogued by medium or contents, including collages, morphs, drawings, paintings and performance art. There is also a section called "Synergy," which is a collection of art projects created among several artists working collaboratively on the Internet.
